This week we continued studying germs. Children represented germs through drawings. This curiosity emerged several weeks ago when we wanted to encourage proper and thorough hand washing technique by reading the book, “Mean, Dirty, Downright Disgusting, but Invisible Germs.” The children were fascinated by the illustrator’s depiction of what the germ for each illness might looks like. Children drew germs of their own. A curiosity also emerged. What is ‘invisible?’
“You can’t see it.” -Joseph
“Put powers in it and it makes it invisible.” -Asher
“It disappears. It goes somewhere else.” -Max
“Invisible means you can’t see somethings like germs. The wind makes the germs go on your hand.” –Thais
During morning meeting, we reviewed the children’s drawings from the day before. Joseph began telling us about his microscope. “I have a microscope. Microscopes help you see stuff that’s really little like your cells.” This began a discussion about scopes.

“My brother has a telescope. You can look out of the tiny hole and you see whatever you want on there.” -Claudia
“Mickey Mouse had a telescope too to look for Minnie Mouse.” -Effy
“A seascape can see underwater and see fish and floating trash. I was on a boat and I saw floating trash.” -Oliver
