The early preschool and preschool classrooms are made up of 15 children and 2 educators. The teacher/student ratio in the preschool class does not exceed 1:8.
The preschool class is designed to promote independent and small group work in a carefully orchestrated, but flexible environment. Children and teachers will engage in reciprocal exchange to create paths or “threads” of learning. Children will be the architects of their own experience and teachers act as guides and researchers in order to broaden and deepen explorations. In the preschool class children will be encouraged to think critically, discover solutions to problems, research the answers to their questions and communicate and interact with each individual in a respectful and thoughtful manner.
The preschool classes are also be supported by the Atelierista (studio teacher) and the Music Teacher. Experiences in the studio may be independent of classroom work or connected to ongoing project work. The Atelierista will collaborate with the classroom educators to create continuity of learning as well as plan, research, observe and document children’s work. The Music teacher provides weekly music class and also works with children and teachers to incorporate music into the daily life of the students.
