Where The Wild Things Are

Posted on May 6, 2016   |   Category: Preschool Blog   |   Print this page

Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents that came to see our Where the Wild Things Are play today.  It was a huge success and the children did such a stellar job.  The process of making our final play included reading the book, practicing on the drums, practicing the lines, making the poster/playbill, drawing out ideas in their sketch books for what the Wild Things would look like, making the backdrop using real leaves and other natural materials, painting the title banner and making the Wild Things costumes. A lot of work goes into this process and it is amazing to see how the story line developed for the children. First the island became real!  Max’s bedroom had real food waiting for him. Max’s dog was definitely chased and so it became important for someone to play the role of Max’s dog.  The enthusiasm of the Wild Things roaring, rolling their eyes, gnashing their teeth, and showing their claws became a self directing improvisation.  The music from the youtube audio recording (John Kelin) of Where the Wild Things Are made the children jump with joy…we mean feet off the floor joy!  It was a great experience and a wonderful week.  Thank you for the snacks and for your interest in what the children do and for your support.  Thank you for the gifts for teacher appreciation week, we really appreciate it.  Great work children, “Oh, please don’t go! We love you so!”
