The PreK class has been practicing their super hero power on the playground. In the classroom, they talk about their powerful machines they have built in the block area. We asked Keoki, Macey, Ethan and Jerimiah to tell us their ideas about power.
It is from the lightening. It will hurt you because it does something to you. It does anything to you.” -Keoki
“Something of electricity. It makes lights go on.” Are electricity and superhero power different? “Yes. So they can fight the villains. It’s not power from that stuff ‘cuz it might have electricity.” -Ethan
What is power? “All the people go see the fireworks. All the fireworks lights the power and it goes on. “My mommy won’t let me see super heroes, but then she said yes.” -Jeremiah
Do super heroes have power? Yes. Wonder woman has power to fly up in the sky like an invisible shield.” -Macey
Later we came back together in morning meeting and showed the class this documentation. Jeremiah got us wondering if the children would say parents have power since they set limits. “Yes!” They all agreed. “They have eyes in the back of their head and can see everything.” We then asked if children have power. Some children said yes and some no. We look forward to explore these ideas further.
