John is a freelance guitarist, bassist, vocalist and bandleader based in Atlanta, Georgia. Skilled in many styles of music, John can be found performing throughout Georgia. He teaches guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin and ukulele to students of all ages.
Born into a house full of guitars, John was fully engrossed and studying seriously by 7th grade. He began teaching lessons and playing local gigs while still in high school. In college at Appalachian State University, John taught Guitar 101 classes in the Hayes School of Music.
Following college, John taught private lessons and performed full-time. In the late 90s, he taught music and economics at Atlanta Country Day School. Since 2000 John has worked at Emory University as a web developer and instructional designer while maintaining a regular teaching and performing schedule.
John studied with Ivan Zugel, Gus Toole, Steve Griffin, Daniel Pumphrey and Robert Fripp. He played a masterclass with David Russell.
John’s approach to teaching seeks to foster a lifelong love and enthusiasm for playing music.
