Summer, Summer, Summertime!
June 6-10, 2016
This week has been a blast! The twos room has become the “construction or engineer’s” room as friends created either extravagant, or quite simple forms with blocks, magnet tiles, and logs & wood cookies. Friends created towers, motorcycles, castles, houses and more! Not only were our busy friends constructing objects, but they spent most of their time building up friends and forming close bonds with their classmates. There were beautiful moments captured throughout the week that made us really proud to be teachers, and friends with these little guys!
Above: Friends noticed Donovan riding his motorcycle at the bottom of the playground! They eagerly hopped on, ready for the adventure up ahead! Donovan led his friends to some of his family’s homes, and the store!
“I’m going to the grocery store! See ya later!” Donovan shouts.
The friends took turns getting on and off of the “motorcycle.” They made sure to put on their “gear” and “helmets” before each ride!
Above: As we dove right in to a lesson about architecture, we talked about some famous structures from all over the world. Friends were excited to talk about shapes that each building reminded them of. Some of us has personal connections to the photos, such as our home: Atlanta. Other friends recognized pictures from shows or movies they may have seen at home.
It was interesting to see how the lesson expanded. We created the shapes we saw in each image with our bodies, which turned into “yoga.” Friends even enjoyed taking turns crawling under their teacher who was standing like the Eiffel Tower!
Above: “Mommy Finger” is a song that has echoed throughout the class for quite some time. Interestingly enough, this song was introduced by one of our friends, who sings it daily when she’s in good spirits! We hear it echoing from the potty’s, throughout morning meeting, and even on the playground, and of course, we always chime in!
After observing the friends singing this song, friends have also begun copying the physical version of the song. Whether it’s marker caps, or Lego’s, friends find items to move to each finger as they sing different family members included in the song..
“Mommy finger, mommy finger, where are you?
Here I am, here I am! How do you do?
Daddy Finger.. Sister, Brother, Baby finger.. are all included in the song.
Above: “ALL ABOARD!” announces conductor Savannah as friends board the Marta Express!
Sam navigates the train on a friend-led expedition as they venture through the playground.
Moving on to next week:
As a class, we will be working with more construction and engineering throughout the week. Our friends our really creative, and we know this is not the end of the road for these topics. We also know some parents work in fields related to construction and engineering. The children and the teachers would love some family involvement on these subjects as we delve more into this new world of learning through building. Please come in any time that your free to share tools, blueprints/images, machinery, vehicles, etc that may be interesting or useful as we continue our exploration. Not only do the little ones feel the love, but it also helps connect the two worlds of learning at home and at school!
Much love,
The Twos’ Team
