Leaves:
We have been so excited to watch the beautiful leaves fall from the trees. We created a leaf collecting station in the classroom. Children have been studying and sorting the leaves we find outside and at the Wylde Center. Is it yellow or orange? If the leaf is red and green which bowl should it go in? What other words can we use to describe the leaves? “It’s bumpy.” “This one is tickly.”
Friends traced leaves too. Collecting leaves and natural materials at the Wylde Center was fun. The children noticed that their were different leaves at the Wylde Center than our playground.
Stamps:
Our project we are exploring is post offices and mail. We have been talking about stamps. We studied a variety of different stamps. Children noticed the numbers and words on each stamp as well as the interesting pictures, all so different. Friends even created their own stamps. Next week we will explore mail even more and incorporate mail and post offices into all areas of our classroom. This interest emerged from receiving mail from our Malaysian pen pals as well as our emerging writing in the classroom. Upon our return from break we will visit the post office. Stay tuned for a volunteer opportunity to join us on this fun trip to find out how the mail gets to it’s destination!
