Young Infants: 12 weeks to 7 months

The young infants have been exploring different types of fruit over the last couple of week. They we continued with this thread with exploring oranges. They explored the outside of the oranges and practiced their fine motor skills with bowling and rolling the oranges. Next week, we will continue our exploration of oranges.  We were able to catch a special moment of Henry holding his bottle.  Congratulations Henry on this big milestone you have accomplished.

Older Infants: 7 months to 18 months

This week in the Older Infant room we are focusing on molding and sculpting with different materials. Last week we observed the children enjoying the homemade play dough Ms. Erika made for them, so we decided to expand upon this thread with exploring other materials they could manipulate with their hands. We used cookie dough, play dough, and sand to make different shapes. We also used different materials to add to our play dough and sand to give the sculpting materials different dimensions and textures. We gave each child the option to chose which color play dough they enjoyed the best. In our observations it was very obvious that pink, orange, and blue are clear winners. We also gave the children the option to explore different herbs and spices and they were given the chance to mix and mold the spices into the play dough. We are going to continue with this thread of molding next week as well. We are going to explore different scented play dough and we are also going to try our hand at making different shapes out of pressing pasta into the play dough. What fun we will have! img_5771 img_5781 img_5811 img_5813 img_5847 img_5852 img_5853
