Story Telling with Anasi, Planting, and Geometric Shapes Exploration

Posted on March 25, 2016   |   Category: Preschool Blog   |   Print this page

Wow, what a week!  With enthusiasm on the tail of the symphony trip the children entered deeper into  storytelling with Anasi the Spider. Our iPad was out of service this week so please click to see photos.

“The chickens LOVE dried worms!” – Vincent   “The yellow one jumped up to get the worms” – Billy

Question: Do chickens love bananas?  “YES!!! Chickens love bananas!”  -Lilla and Claudia

“Feed them that worm!” -Lilla

“Almost pinched my finger!” -August  “You got it August!” -Billy

“The chickens love dandelion leaves!” -Oscar  “I can pet a chicken.”  -August

“I’m not afraid of the chickens” -Adelyn

This week we meet the chickens formally…Ms. Mary, the Naturalist from Camp Scene introduced us to Blueberry (grey chicken), Arabia (black chicken), Marshmallow (white chicken) and other chicken friends.

The children put together a list of foods that the chicken’s cannot eat and the list is adapted as we research and ask questions before feeding the chickens our composted food.  The chicken bucket sits at morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack waiting for the children to decide if the menu is good for the chickens.  It is an exciting and insightful process and the children really enjoy walking over to feed the chickens.  This week we even ventured inside of the chicken pen and near the coop.  “There’s a ramp that up there!” -Oscar

“Woooo! The chickens were trying to get me!” -Billy

Did the chickens get you Billy or Max?

 “No, not yet!” -Max

Adelyn, August, Vincent, Billy, Claudia, Lilla, and Max lead the way to the chicken coop on Thursday and found that lifting up the stepping stones could provide them with even more chicken treats…Max carefully lifted stone by stone as friends surrounded the area to search for insects.

“I found a worm!” -August  “Feed it to the chickens August.” – Vincent

“I found a slug!” -August

“I found a centipede.” Adelyn  “I herded a centipede so it didn’t move” -Adelyn

“Guys, come over here…ANTS!!!” -Max

“Is this a garden?” -August

Ms. Mary took the group on a tour of the garden area just outside of the chicken coop.  There were strawberries growing, and raspberries.  There were different types of lettuce and spinach and greens.  Other friends were interested in the stepping stones which had pennies embedded in them.  More photos to come from our personal cameras this week…

We have some great photos of the geometric shape exploration that Adelyn, Carter, Oscar, Harper, Sloane and Everett were way into. (see here in this daily page)

Preschool Blog Week

Reminder:  Please be sure to take home water bottles and fill them up with fresh water for the next day.  Friends have been trying to hydrate well in these pollen and runny nose filled days of spring:-)

IMPORTANT!  Please send in a plate, teacup/small mug, and saucer for our new Tea time set up.  The children are having their morning snack in the classroom now and it is going splendidly.  6 children sit down at the tea table, serve themselves tea, and make an agreement about how much snack to take.  It’s amazing to watch!
