The Pre-K / Kindergarten class is a multi-aged class of four, five and six year old children that provides a wide range of opportunities for learning and growth. Children have the opportunity to stay in the class with the same teacher for one or two years, depending on the age of entering the class. The multi-age classroom creates strong opportunities for children to develop complex relationships with peers and educators. Children leaving the class will be well prepared for traditional kindergarten or first grade in a public or private setting.
Based on our Reggio inspired philosophy, the kindergarten class will offer a range of activities that are play-based, constructivist in nature, and developmentally appropriate. The curriculum will be a product of the knowledge, thoughts and ideas of the collective group and therefore has no limits with regard to the depth or breadth of possibilities. Children will be the catalysts for a large portion of the subject content and educators will provide meaningful provocations to invoke critical thinking, problem solving, shared group work, as well as, individual work.
This classroom will be a maximum of 22 children with two educators. Both educators will have appropriate credentials and experience for this dynamic classroom. This class follows the City Schools of Decatur calendar.
